Gaston County Schools is the second largest employer in Gaston County with more than 3,800 full-time and part-time employees, including 1,950 classroom teachers. We are the tenth largest school district in North Carolina with more than 30,000 students, and our neighborhood schools are a great source of community pride. Our 56 schools are accredited by AdvancED/Cognia – receiving accreditation is a recognition that signifies that all of our schools have earned the distinction of being a quality school.
While we are located in the Charlotte metropolitan region, we strive to maintain our sense of hometown and community. We like to say that we are close enough to city life, but without the hassle.

Teacher transfer information
Click here for information for teachers who would like to transfer to another school for the 2024-2025 academic year. The deadline for teachers to apply for a transfer is Thursday, March 28 at 5:00 p.m. For more information, call (704) 866-6129.

Register for our Job Fair on Tuesday, April 16
Gaston County Schools will host a job fair on Tuesday, April 16 at the Gastonia Conference Center, 145 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Gastonia, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
The job fair is for anyone wishing to work for the school district in administrative, teaching (certified), and non-teaching (classified) positions. Non-teaching positions include teacher assistants, school support staff, school nutrition, bus transportation/bus drivers, office personnel, facilities/maintenance, etc.Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the schools in Gaston County, meet with school principals and other administrators, receive information about salary and benefits.

The time period for employees to enroll in the Flexible Benefits Plan is March 25-May 31. If employees do not take action, their current contribution will stop effective September 30, 2024. Click here for more information.
